Invitations

[edit]

Do the series champions in the LMES recieve automatic invitations to Le Mans, like the ALMS champions do? Gentgeen 10:49, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)

LeMans Series

[edit]

It is now simply known as the LeMans Series. 67.188.172.165 00:36, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sanctioning

[edit]

Is there a reason that Le Mans does NOT count for championship points? Is this similar to the days in IndyCar racing when CART santioned the championship while the Indianapolis 500 was still hosted by USAC? Though in that case, CART awarded points to competitors at Indy. 97.125.92.220 (talk) 06:56, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Most likely because unlike the Indianapolis 500 and other similar star races, Le Mans is by invitation only. It'd be possible for every competitor in the Le Mans Series, ALMS, and other series to participate, so it'd be a bit unfair to exclude some teams.
However, the 24 Hours of Le Mans was part of the World Sportscar Championship and worth points for nearly every year from 1953 to 1992. IIIVIX (Talk) 12:04, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Le Mans SeriesEuropean Le Mans Series – The Le mans Series has been renamed the European Le Mans Series for 2012 ([1]). The existing article on the former European Le Mans Series has had its content merged with 2001 European Le Mans Series season. There is therefore no more need to have the European Le Mans Series article at it currently exists, and this will allow the The Le Mans Series article to be moved to its new title. Appropriate links to the two series will be corrected once the move is completed. The359 (Talk) 19:07, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Support, except I think we need to histmerge European Le Mans Series with 2001 European Le Mans Series season. The ELMS page may get deleted in that process (I'm not exactly sure how it works) and we would be able to move the Le Mans Series page with a normal page move. We also need to consider moving Category:European Le Mans Series to Category:2001 European Le Mans Series season and then moving Category:Le Mans Series to Category:European Le Mans Series.
I also moved 2012 Le Mans Series season to 2012 European Le Mans Series season; this should be uncontroversial. Spyder_Monkey (Talk) 00:18, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I was planning on moving the 2012 season page but then I realized, after I had already started, that the move from Le Mans Series to European Le Mans Series required some permissions so I had to stop halfway. The359 (Talk) 00:44, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The text of European Le Mans Series has already been merged into 2001 European Le Mans Series season. That was done before this request was even made. The359 (Talk) 18:10, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've cleaned up after the merge and moved the edit history under a different title, so the proposed move here can be performed without worrying about losing the history. Jafeluv (talk) 11:38, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help, Jafeluv. Now that I've seen what you've done, it makes sense, but I never would have thought to do it that way. Spyder_Monkey (Talk) 04:44, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
