This page needs to be edited. Kaye Stripling isn't the head of HISD anymore.

I would like to view HISD archived information

[edit]

My name is Conrad Kabay and I am the product of the HISD.

I currently live in Austin Texas and am an MS Chemist for the Texas State Department of Health Services (formerly the Health Department).

I am 53 and would love to see any historical information regarding my educational upbringing. I am particularly interested in my Elementary School years (Southland Elementary) and have questions about my old school mates and teachers. Where did Mrs. Harper (who hated me) finally go ? What is the name of my first grade teacher ? Who amongst my generation of Southland Alums have gone on to lead distinguished careers or heaven forbid wound up in prison ?

I don't feel I am alone in these queries. My email is and would be very appreciative of any information.

thank you

Sincerely

M. Conrad Kabay

Proposed Changes for cleanup.

[edit]

I propose that the list of schools be in their own respective sections on a separate pages with a quick blurb on the various pages. This edit alone should be able to clean this up substantially.

Update and Clean up tags

[edit]

This article needs a clean up. I am adding a {{Update}} tag due to the spotty history and a {{cleanup-rewrite}} due to the organisation of the information. I believe this article needs extensive work to bring it up to the Wikipedia standards. This district is the seventh largest in the US, it deserves a good article. --Ben (talk) 05:30, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2011 school closings

[edit]
  • "HISD students react to elementary campus closures." KTRK-TV. Friday May 13, 2011. Retrieved on June 6, 2011.</ref>
    • Says that Rhoads and Grimes zones will go to Woodson ES. Memorial ES and Love ES will take over parts of Stevenson ES. McDade is split between Cook, Kashmere Gardens, and Paige.
  • Mellon, Ericka. "Day filled with fine, and final, farewells." Houston Chronicle. June 4, 2011. Retrieved on June 6, 2011.
    • Says that Buchanan Grimes Elementary School was named after Buchanan Grimes, a janitor who ascended his way to principal. Grimes served Sunnyside Gardens in southern Houston for 56 years. Sunnyside Gardens aged and many parents began to send their children to other neighborhoods. Around 1991 (2 decades prior to 2011) 580 kids went to Grimes. In 2011 it was 380.

And here are archives of pre-merge succeeding schools.

But I don't know of any schools actually closing... - And I know Almeda ES is NOT closing.

Also - http://www.hisdprojects.com/projectDetails/?category=schoolTypes&pid=277 says Reagan will be at 4842 Anderson Road Houston, Texas 77045 and that it will be a feeder of Madison HS - It would be at this location WhisperToMe (talk) 00:41, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

controversy over strip searches

[edit]

On 19:54, 29 July 2018, a section was added regarding the strip search controversy. In order to avoid authorial bias, quotes were taken from the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Nevertheless, this was felt by another user to be both opinion and not properly cited. On 01:20, 30 July 2018, that user removed the updated information. I have gone over the changes in detail again to be sure they were accurate quotes and the citation included both page number and (if required) footnote.

I am sure there is just a miscommunication here. Since these are direct quotes from the court and the citation exists, I am reverting the change and asking the user that felt it was incomplete to move discussion to this page to find out exactly what the problems were and what additional changes would need to be done in order to satisfy them.

First, sign your comments. Second, you cannot post negative information about a living person based off of primary sources. Are you under the impression that there is some fact checking process involved in filing a lawsuit? Any party can sue any other party at any time about anything. Finding of facts is done at trial. At this point, this is a non-starter. We are by policy not a newspaper. Our content is based on appropriate material paraphrased from secondary sources. You have none. Hence, you have nothing you can add to the article. Further, WP:BLP bars you from adding controversial content about non famous people without rock solid sources. Since all you are going to be able to say is that newspapers are reporting some pissed off people have sued over an alleged event, you got nothing. John from Idegon (talk) 05:44, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The statements in question were published in the court decision. This is a verifiable source, it is decided and written by an impartial judge.

I'm going over this again. Are you suggesting that the us courts of appeals decisions are not a verifiable source overall or that the incident specifically is not being completely clarified by the court?

Also, if you are only concerned with the living person, why are you deleting information unrelated to them?

User continues to revert changes without coherent explanation or clarifying edits.

Added dispute tag to make sure readers know that a user feels this is under dispute.

Further research tells me that this is accepted on wikipedia in other places. Safford_Unified_School_District#Legal_Cases is a very similar case and its listing there Safford_Unified_School_District_v._Redding uses references to decisions as well.

User has now unilaterally removed dispute and neutrality tags.
