Q1: Why does the opening describe Ferdinand Marcos Sr. as a dictator and a kleptocrat?
A1: Several discussions have already been held, with the consensus being that reliable sources support that Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was a kleptocrat and a dictator. Wikipedia is written in a neutral point of view and facts overrule personal views and opinions. As such, Wikipedia does not censor nor whitewash these facts, regardless of the other works and accomplishments of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
The prior discussions can be found here: Any change to these titles will require a new consensus to be reached on the talk page.Q2: Why does this article use Rappler as a source of information?
A2: Rappler is considered a reliable source according to the consensus of multiple discussions about Rappler on the reliable sources noticeboard (see discussions 1, 2, and 3). This however, does not include Rappler's Voices section, which contains crowdsourced opinion pieces. As such, articles from Rappler's other sections do not pose any issues with the article's neutral point of view or Wikipedia's policy on original research. |
The subject of this article is controversial and content may be in dispute. When updating the article, be bold, but not reckless. Feel free to try to improve the article, but don't take it personally if your changes are reversed; instead, come here to the talk page to discuss them. Content must be written from a neutral point of view. Include citations when adding content and consider tagging or removing unsourced information. |
Please stay calm and civil while commenting or presenting evidence, and do not make personal attacks. Be patient when approaching solutions to any issues. If consensus is not reached, other solutions exist to draw attention and ensure that more editors mediate or comment on the dispute. |

Edit request regarding children section[edit]
The children section lists underr kids "3 with Imelda" and one, seperately as "adopted". It should list 4 under Imelda, since Ferdinand Marcos and Imelda Marcos adopted their fourth child together. It's weird to single out one child as 'adopted'. 2001:1C01:4282:9E00:4890:D5F6:7B93:49B5 (talk) 13:32, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- I have made the necessary correction. iamdumdum 13:53, January 4, 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you. And kindly remove the (adopted) behind Aimee Marcos' name, it's a bit odd and other biographies on Wikipedia do not denote whether or not a child is adopted or not, the adoption is mentioned in the personal life section but should not be mentioned in the infobox. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:1C01:4282:9E00:4890:D5F6:7B93:49B5 (talk) 14:38, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
SUGGESTION: Human rights abuses subsection should be trimmed[edit]
As of writing this post, the readable prose size for Ferdinand Marcos now stands at 137kB. Many editors would now declare this article WP:TOOBIG for a regular to read.
I think that the Legacy section could need some shedding. We could start by abridging the Human rights abuses subsection (with some of its parts transferred to the dedicated "Human rights abuses of the Marcos dictatorship" article) that currently accounts for 1/4th of the Legacy section in terms of byte count. The "Abductions" and "Torture" sections of "Human Rights Abuses" could be consolidated into the main text, while the "Killings" sections can be summarized for WP:WEIGHT reasons. kleptocrat?[edit]
really? you have proof for this shitty article which is admissible by evidence not hearsay 2001:4455:6CB:1200:51F8:BC47:4A8C:DEDA (talk) 03:44, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
- Yes. Please read https://factcheck.afp.com/philippine-supreme-court-ruled-three-times-ferdinand-marcos-must-give-back-millions-he-stole-his. -Object404 (talk) 21:59, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
"Ordinary citizens"[edit]
End of second paragraph states: "political opposition, Muslims, suspected communists, and ordinary citizens." This wording should be revised for WP:Othering. As written, it implies that the subgroups preceding "ordinary citizens" are not themselves ordinary, which is the same logic used by Marcos to persecute the subgroups.
Suggested change could look like: "political opposition, Muslims, suspected communists, and people not accused of any specific alleged wrongdoing." Flavoredquark (talk) 07:12, 20 August 2023 (UTC)
[edit]
Simple he was being paid by President Reagan for the use of the Philippine Nuclear Power Station for his Star war program. Built by the French and leased to President Marcos the only thing he didn’t tel Reagan is it was never commissioned hahaha . Like Troops going to Vietnam! . That was never on the Government’s accounts when he left. Because you would have thought that payments from the US Government would show up. 2A00:23CC:B492:5201:2DBC:572D:2AA3:1CFB (talk) 14:10, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
