"Creature of Mist"?

[edit]

The definition of Nebelung as found in this article is not listed in the standard German dictionary, the Duden, so I can't really leave the "translation" "creature of mist" in. As far as I can tell, whoever started this breed merged two words: 1.) Nibelungen (the old Germanic Saga, which includes figures after whom the first couple was named, Siegfried and Brunhilde). 2.) Nebel (the German word for Mist). If someone has a better, more accurate description of how the Name came to be, please feel free to change my current text. 85.177.82.150 (talk)

I went ahead and changed this, the "creature of mist" 'translation' seems like something created without thought to any actual meaning. Amontadillo (talk) 13:18, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nebelung Attributes

[edit]

I have had a Nebelung for over ten years and there are several observations that need mentioning about the "elegant fairytale, with its coat that reminds of dew in a summer dawn".

Fur: Nebelung fur is very fine/light and infinitely abundant (inbreed with a dandelion?). Combing only makes things worse by creating a hairball that is larger than the offending cat ;-). After a few years, their fur is EVERYWHERE and covers things like dust. Example, every few months, I need to take apart my computer and mouse to remove all the fur twisted around the moving parts. Fur can make its way into CD Rom drives. If one was to seal a clean jar and come back later, it would likely have fur in it, it's that bad.

Personality: Nebelungs are 99% lap cats (heat seeking) and are clingy attention sponges. The only way you can have any time alone is to have a closed door between you and the cat. Laid back and mellow. slow whiny and wimpy meow.

Activity: Normal movement is best described as slinky, much like a sloth. Lighting fast when motivated.

Eating: very particular but pukes a lot when it overeats. Must regulate food amount in dish.

Intelligence: Questionable.

  • 2014 update: Seems to have some intelligence but is reserved and not blatant about showing it being so laid back. He does pick up on verbal cues and hand commands and responds quickly and correctly, this makes him appear well mannered. Still trying to decide if he is "good" by choice and therefor smart or too retarded to do anything mischievous. So much effort may have been put into the quality of the fur that brains may have been sacrificed.Septagram (talk) 16:59, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Other than that, my Nebelung has been one of the best cats I have owned.

Can We give the Nebelung a new infobox photo?

[edit]

Just find the right photo on Google that everyone will agree on, and crop it out. The reason why I gave this idea is because the current photo doesn’t show the face that much, and also, its a little too dark.

Also, can we add health issues for the Nebelung? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.23.154.148 (talk) 00:01, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can we change the photo for the Nebelung’s infobox, and add health issues for the cat breed?

[edit]

This is because it is a little too dark, and the face isn’t totally showing.

Also, can we add health issues, because almost every animal has health issues, but some rarely get them — Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.23.154.148 (talk) 16:25, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Personality

[edit]

We have a female nebulong that we just found out is a nebulon she looks just like the cats and when everything is described down to personality to a tee. She just turned a year so she's a little over a year we just had her fixed a month or so ago. Although I would like to comment on at least her personality I don't know if the rest of them would because every cat is different but her personality is very more lively and hyper now don't get me wrong she does get in her laid back state but she is a very lovable attached but playful hyper wants to run and act crazy at times when they say that they are very attached to and follow their owners around yet that's very correct she follows everyone around but particularly likes to sleep and cuddle with my daughter. 107.115.207.35 (talk) 17:54, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My male that was turned into the pound, was surrendered by his first owners for chewing on coards, I haven’t had a bit of that in my home. Sadly they declawed all 4 of his paws so the poor thing can’t scratch his thick beautiful coat. Their loss and my gain of this smart and intelligent animal. He tells on himself and takes you to where he has thrown up or to where something is out of place. He is afraid of loud noises or quick movements, I believe are due to being mistreated by the first owners. He is my loyal, loving, devoted big ball of super fine silky hair. The best cat I have ever owned. 170.203.167.182 (talk) 18:42, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
