Discovery

[edit]

According to this article, King Edward Point was "discovered by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition of 1901-04". According to the Grytviken article, Grytviken "was so named by a 1902 Swedish surveyor who found old English pots...". If there were "old" English pots at Grytviken in 1902 then wouldn't they have been left by earlier visitors (presumably sealers) quite some time before the 1901-04 expedition, and wouldn't those vistors have inevitably also "discovered" King Edward Point? I don't quite see how this chronology stacks up. Maybe I am getting confused. Matt 22:10, 2 June 2007 (UTC).

Nordensjkold wrote about it. Earlier sealers were not good at recording where they operated, presumably to keep good sites secret from competitors. PatLurcock 16:36, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I find this interesting and would very much like to more about the given name. It seems unlikely, Even with 'pots' a evidence, that a swedish expedition would be so gracious as to name this location after someone else's king...89.240.63.146 (talk) 21:42, 19 September 2015 (UTC)89.240.63.146 (talk) 21:43, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why the pciture of the helicopter?

[edit]

As I recall the Argentine helicopter crashed on the opposite side of the bay (past Grytviken) to Kind Edward point and so is a few miles from Kind Edward point. Surely a picture of KEP itself would be more relevant?2.217.150.216 (talk) 10:44, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Correct, that helicopter eventually crashed across the cove. I've removed the picture; it would be nice having a replacement showing King Edward Point itself instead. Apcbg (talk) 12:02, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Shakletons Memorial Cross

[edit]

The article does not mention Shakletons Memorial Cross. Could this be added with a link or picture?:

You do realise that it is not at KEP? Wee Curry Monster talk 13:12, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
