Chemical name

[edit]

"Butyl" nitrate? Amyl is the C5 radical, and butyl is C4. Are these the street names of butyl nitrate, in which case they're misplaced, or is the chemical name incorrect? DS 21:32, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)

The amyl nitrite article says the same thing about angina and cyanide poisening. One of the two articles seems wrong. MH 20:06, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Treating angina and cyanide poisoning is amyl nitrite, not this amyl nitrate. That msds link is wrong. which is really scary (Rajah 07:09, 3 June 2006 (UTC))[reply]

I've been bold and decimated this article, stripping it down to one uncited 'fact' and the only concrete bit of information we have: that it's often mistaken for amyl nitrite. I've also been unable to source any information on amyl nitrate that wasn't obviously refering to amyl nitrite, even when only browsing .edu domains. At this rate it almost warrants a simple redirect to the nitrite's article, but I think I've been bold enough for the time being. ИΞШSΜΛЯΞ 19:35, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The heart drug (nicknamed "popper") is amyl nitrite, not amyl nitrate. Does "amyl nitrate" exist? On TV, they advertise heart drugs as "nitrates," which I assume is simply a misspelling. George415 (talk) 03:38, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is (was) purchased in head shops. You use it during sex or anytime for a head rush. Lasts about 20 sec. But keeps you laughing for about 30 min. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:30A:C029:1880:B434:2647:6A0C:4ED8 (talk) 16:28, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What about cultural reference byword from the punk film Jubillee?

Restoring amyl nitrite disambiguation template

[edit]

For quite awhile, the "For" template was used on this page to disambiguate "amyl nitrate" and "amyl nitrite". Today, there is a similar template on the "Amyl nitrite" article. The "For" template on this page stated "the active ingredient in the recreational drugs known as poppers|Amyl nitrite". In October 2021, @Coffeeking123 made an edit with no edit summary that removed this template. While there is still a link to amyl nitrite in the "See also" section, I think the template should be restored due to the fact that these substances are so commonly confused, and if there are no objections, I will restore the template. Thanks for any input! Wikipedialuva (talk) 10:11, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Wikipedialuva I agree with your statement on adding the for template.I can see how those compounds would be confused now, so feel free to restore the template! Feel free to also let me know if you would like me to collaborate with you on any pharmaceutical drugs pages! Coffeeking123 (talk) 22:35, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Coffeeking123! Thanks for responding so quickly; I'll go ahead and add the template. Thanks for the offer to collaborate on pharmacology articles, which is also one of my editing interests, especially psychopharmacology, antimicrobials, and sexual health drugs. Feel free to message me if there is a topic or page you want to collaborate on; there are few things I enjoy more than getting to nerd out about pharmacology!
