Biased?[edit]

Self-titled[edit]

The band's name is Red Hot Chili Peppers, while the album is titled The Red Hot Chili Peppers. In this case, the album would NOT be self-titled, as the band's name does not contain the word "The". - 69.148.69.125 07:36, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Red Hot Chili Peppers (album) → The Red Hot Chili Peppers — "The Red Hot Chili Peppers" redirects to "Red Hot Chili Peppers" (i.e. the name of the album redirects to the band). The album itself is on a page with the "(album)" suffix - as this album is actually called "The Red Hot Chili Peppers" (and the band is not, but is called something similar), it seems better to move this to the redirect page, and included a hatnote at the top refering the reader to the band's article. — JCrue (talk) 16:59, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. The only possible change I'd support here is redirecting this to a disambiguation page. I believe that almost every person on this planet younger than 40 has heard for RHCP, but the fact they've recorded an album of the same name is much more obscure. Support In this case The is not part of the name of the band as it is in, for example, The Beatles and The Who, however, it is part of the name of the album. Comment I've changed The Red Hot Chili Peppers to redirect to this article instead of to the article about the band at Red Hot Chili Peppers. Also, if this propose move is implemented, the hatnote I added to the top of Red Hot Chili Peppers needs to be updated to link to The Red Hot Chili Peppers instead of to The Red Hot Chili Peppers (album). --Born2cycle (talk) 20:58, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose and restore the redirect. While "The" is not technically part of the bands name, it is usually included when talking about them (i.e. you would say "The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be performing" and not "Red Hot Chili Peppers will be avoiding"). It is also more plausible that someone typing that in will be looking for the band and not this specific album. TJ Spyke 22:52, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When I talk about the Honda that I own, I usually include "the", as in, "I'm taking the Honda to work". That doesn't make "the" part of the name. If it's true that that someone typing in "The Red Hot Chili Peppers" is more likely to be looking for the band than the album, that's a valid point. However, in that process they will learn the distinction (which, if they're looking for this band is likely to be of some interest to them), not to mention potentially learning about their first album, and the band will be only one hat note link away. You make a good point, but, overall, I think the proposed move is still the best way to go with respect to meeting the needs of readers. --Born2cycle (talk) 00:08, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
