WikiProject Biography Assessment

Needs references, but basically a B.

The article may be improved by following the WikiProject Biography 11 easy steps to producing at least a B article. -- Yamara 17:34, 19 June 2007 (UTC) Regarding audiobooks. Blackstone Audio, NOT Books on Tape, is the current copyright holder for Lois Mcmaster Bujold's books including: Shards of Honor (projected relase summer of 2009), Warrior's Apprentice, The Vor Gane, Cetaganda, Mirror Dance, Ethan of Athos (release spring 2009), Brothers in Arms, Memory, Komarr, A Civil Campaign, Winterfair Gifts, and Diplomatic Immunity. Shards of Honor, Barrayar and Borders of Infinity was produced earlier by The Reader's Chair but is no longer in business. Shards of Honor may be re-produced by Blackstone to follow their release of Shards of Honor but I haven't confirmed this. Also available from Blackstone Audio: The Curse of Chalion, Paladin of Souls and The Hallowed Hunt of the Chalion Series and The Sharing Knife Series; Books One through Three (Beguilement, Legacy and Passage). Book Four-Horizon-may be in the works as well but I haven't confirmed this info either. All of LMJ's audiobooks currently released by Blackstone are available in library, MP3, Retail, playaway and tape/cassette versions as well as on Audible.com. Freefall and Reader's Chair's Borders of Infiniry are not. I'm new at this and I hope I placed the data in the corredt area. BladeoficeBladeofice (talk) 20:59, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]

Are you sure about Shards of Honor being set five years before Miles' birth? It ends with Cordelia and Aral getting married, and she became pregnant almost immediately afterwards (she tells Drou this in Barrayar when asked how she first knew she was pregnant). Unless the action in Shards of Honor lasts for a very long time, I think one year before Miles' birth would be closer.
Ekaterin 12:47, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)

The action in Shards of Honor does indeed last a very long time: there might well be a several-year lapse between the first meeting of Aral and Cordelia (can't recall whether on Escobar or Sergyar) and their marriage. HTH HAND —Phil | Talk 11:08, September 6, 2005 (UTC)

I thought 'The Reader's Chair' went kaput a while back - can anyone confirm? (Re: audiobooks) -Martha 72.81.40.136 17:48, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fivefold pathway now has an entry.

[edit]

The Fivefold Pathway of the Soul is now up as a place for notes and speculations on the religion LMB created for the Curse of Chalion/Paladin of Souls universe.

New picture available

[edit]

There is a new picture available here, annotated thusly: Taken in August 2005, this one can be given away freely. I note that there was originally some small question over the licensing status of the current picture (to be found further down the same page) which was eventually solved. Even so it would be nice to keep up with the times: the current picture is almost a decade old. —Phil | Talk 11:08, September 6, 2005 (UTC)

End of series ?

[edit]

Does anyone know if Diplomatic Immunity is supposed to be the end of the series? jg 07:04, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Per the Baen website (http://www.baen.com/cornerstone.htm), another book has been contracted. I thought I saw a 2008 release date somewhere, but it's not in this press release, so consider that unconfirmed. dafydd 00:44, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The next Vorkosiverse book hasn't yet been started. Lois is finishing off the second two books in The Sharing Knife. I seriously doubt she'd allow more than one book to be published simultaneously, or even close to it. The fact that the books are in different genres, and published by different publishing houses, is irrelevant. Neither she nor her publishers will wish to take the chance that having more than one new book out will damage sales.
Of course, Lois's legion of fans would buy as many books as were published, whenever they come out, but she and her publishers will wish to maximize the sales of each and every book. Therefore, I suspect that 2009 is the earliest likely date of publication for the next Vorkosiverse book. There is one decided advantage: She writes much, much faster than she used to. Early in her career, it took nearly two years for each book. She now seems to finish books in less than a year. That is our (her fans') good fortune.
Of course, that means the other two prospective books in the Chalionverse are somewhere out in the nebulous future. [sigh] --Tygerbryght 22:26, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Could someone please link the titles of the various novels with their respective entries in the Vorkosigan Saga article? Shoehorn 00:05, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I added the links for all except Diplomatic Immunity, which is already linked to its own independent article. (Any clues as to why it warrants its own article, while the rest don't?) -Martha 72.81.40.136 17:43, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Order

[edit]

Shouldn't "Miles in Love" come before "Miles, Mutants and Microbes" in the list of the Omnibus editions, since Diplomatic Immunity (included in the latter) takes place after the stories in the former collection? Saffran (talk) 14:33, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changed it now, since nobody seems to have an opinion... Saffran (talk) 00:36, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name pronunciation?

[edit]

boo-Zho, boo-Joe, something else? - Richfife (talk) 19:22, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

According to this, Bujold responded to the question:
So what is the correct pronunciation of "Bujold"
"BOO-jold," with a hard "j" like "joke" or "June." My mother, not a Bujold
reader, pronounces it "BOO-zhold," which drives me batty. ...
"Actually, my own pronunciation of the name (my married name) slides around a bit. Depending on where it falls in the rhythm of a sentence, the accent shifts back and forth from the first syllable to the second. I do usually soften the "j", though not quite that much." Clarityfiend (talk) 00:33, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh man. Now I'm sorry I asked. Thanks! - Richfife (talk) 04:06, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The above text can be found here. In this video ("LOIS MCMASTER BUJOLD" by George Mason, 0:43) Bujold pronounces her name as boo-ZHOLD /bˈʒld/. If no one objects I will add this piece of information to the lead of the article. --Omnipaedista (talk) 10:11, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
She herself says her own pronunciation varies, so I'm not sure a single audio source is authoritative. - Richfife (talk) 06:02, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Heinlein's hugo count

[edit]

The first paragraph says this:

Bujold is one of the most acclaimed writers in her field, having won the prestigious Hugo Award for best novel four times, matching Robert A. Heinlein's record.

This is no longer accurate, because a Retro Hugo was awarded to Heinlein in 2001 for 'Farmer in the Sky'. —Jjfoerch (talk) 14:40, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Retro Hugo is a retrospective award, not counted as a regular Hugo would be. - Dravecky (talk) 15:21, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And yet, her list of Hugos in the lower part of the page shows five awards, plus a special award for a series. This leads me to believe she's actually in the lead. I don't want to edit it because I don't have time to research. Someone should look into it. Alan (talk) 15:32, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

: Fixed. I had to change the archival date --Oefe (talk) 21:28, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The link does not credit Robert Charles McMaster as an editor in any book in the series, or the series as a whole. I would suggest moving this information Robert_Charles_McMaster (which does not have a bibliography) instead, since it seems out of place here, and continuing discussion there. - 157.131.250.246 (talk) 02:38, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Awards table

[edit]

Olivaw-Daneel, the table approach for the Hugo/Locus/Nebula awards is interesting, but when you converted the lists to the table, you left out the years for wins and nominations. Please incorporate that info as well. Schazjmd (talk) 23:20, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing that out. I've added the year as listed on [SFADB http://www.sfadb.com/Lois_McMaster_Bujold_Chronology]. (Each award has its own year, which is a bit confusing, so I just went with what SFADB uses.) Olivaw-Daneel (talk) 23:40, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
