GLB cat?

[edit]

Anyone know the reference for placing him in the GLB category? Alison9 06:37, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Is he not gay? Shouldn't that be mentioned?--Crestville 17:37, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

It would be in bad taste to make that assertion because he has not confirmed it. 131.170.90.4 00:40, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I thought that when he won an Emmy or some other award that he thanked his partner... He is definitely an openly gay actor, either way. That should be added in. And it certainly is not "in poor taste" to include that fact, which he is certainly not ashamed of. -- 68.37.218.5

NNDB has him listed his sexuality as "Matter of Dispute"[1]. Evan1975 23:59, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There was a paragraph alluding to these rumours on here at one point, not sure why it was deleted as it seemed well-written, purely-factual and neutral. -unsigned by User:MartinUK (19:16, 13 October 2006)

Is it really necessary to refer to him as "gay" in the introduction? It's hardly central to his career or fame. The note in "personal life" is surely enough... -unsigned User: 163.1.176.254 (16:08, 31 May 2007)

Hmmm

[edit]

In the Hellboy movie, David Hyde Pierce provided the voice of Abe Sapien, but was unlisted in the credits. This is confirmed on the IMDB. Anyone know why exactly he's uncredited? -unsigned User:Master Deusoma (16:30, 8 June 2006)

While I cannot confirm this, I recall reading somewhere that he did not want to be credited because he didn't want his name to focus attention away from the main stars of the film such as Ron Perlman, or the special effects. -unsigned User:210.216.45.65 (30 September 2006)
I believe he's actually stated he felt Doug Jones (the actor physically portraying Abe Sapien) deserved the credit for portraying the character more than he did for providing the voice. Whatever the reason though, him being uncredited was definitely by his choice. 24.8.252.164 (talk) 19:33, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed rumor - - partner is Brian Hargrove

[edit]

He has "outed" himself and the WIKI article confirms with an industry publicity reference. . .

Timothyjshaw 21:34, 31 May 2007 (UTC)timothyjshaw[reply]

I actually like how the article handles his homosexuality-in that it neither hides nor overemphasizes it. Currently, it doesn't even directly mention his orientation at all (which has little to do with his status as an actor), but still readily lists his 'partner'. Bladestorm 23:04, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Having statements like "The gay actor...." or "He outed himself at...." is a bit over the top. Articles about heterosexual actors don't tend to explicitly state their sexual orientation and I see no reason why articles for gay actors should. 68.117.211.187 23:09, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps because most (heterosexual) people just assume everyone is heterosexual and a well-known male actor being open about his orientation to the point of acknowledging his same-sex partner on a live international television broadcast is sadly still rare enough to be notable. Also, plenty of articles about heterosexuals "flaunt" their sexuality by mentioning their oppposite sex spouses; at the very least, his partner should be named on the same basis. AUTiger » talk 23:46, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And his partner is mentioned. However, when I read articles that mention that someone is homosexual without tying it into the article I'm always reminded of crime reports that open up with something like "Black male arrested for armed robbery" or "Cherry Hill, an African-American woman, was busted for prostitution" but never mention the race of the suspect if they are white (e.g. Kenneth Lay, a white man and head of Enron was arrested....). It just makes me uneasy.... 68.117.211.187 22:20, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I fail to see why such a big deal is made over mention of being gay. The standard for whether or not it's mentioned should be the same as with any other fact about anyone else who has an article: is it verfiable and notable? For someone like say, Harvey Milk, his being gay is certaintly key to the reason he's notable in the first place, and should be mentioned in the introduction. Here, David Hyde Pierce, is not especially notable because he is gay, and while it deserves mention there's no reason for it to be especially emphasized (mentioning it in his personal life is sufficient). 24.8.252.164 (talk) 19:38, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Over the course of reverting vandalism, it appears the entire Personal Life section got deleted. I just restored it. Stu21202 (talk) 21:06, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

LGBT activist?

[edit]

The article states he is a regular supporter of LGBT causes. Is that sufficient for him to be added to the LGBT activists category? Werdnawerdna (talk) 22:23, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't say so. Merely being a supporter of certain causes hardly qualifies someone as an "activist." Saying someone is an activist suggests a much higher level of active involvement than that. 24.8.252.164 (talk) 19:40, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Photo?

[edit]

Hey guys, I'm Jules and I help to run the DHP website 'Show Person'. The photo on this wiki page is really not the best is it? I suggest replacing it with a recent one David had taken to publicise the Alzheimer's Association. It's a good photo and in a good cause. Since I just created this account I can't upload the image, but anyone else is welcome to do so. I can send it to them should they wish to help out.

This may be a quibble, but saying he has a distinctive voice seems to be an opinion. Maybe you should say that he is often mentioned for his distinctive voice, like in this article for example. http://www.nytimes.com/2002/11/29/movies/at-the-movies-who-what-where-when.html. 98.66.147.13 (talk) 20:58, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have done 2 episodes in Caroline in the city... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.243.135.40 (talk) 07:23, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This guy TOTALLY looks like Stewie Griffin

[edit]

I remember seeing an adult version of Stewie a while back during a hypothetical flashback, can't remember which episode, but now I can see why Seth MacFarlane would base his character on him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.120.230.16 (talk) 23:35, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Terminator

[edit]

David Hyde Pierce wasn't in The Terminator movie. That was a different actor named David Pierce. Imdb has it wrong too, but multiple other sources online say that he in fact wasn't in the movie.

Maybe a bit subjective, supporting source (a picture of the actor David Pierce in the movie):

Sources for parents

[edit]

Are there no better sources for this information than IMDB- classed as unreliable at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources- and a Rootsweb page, which is entirely user-generated content? Rootsweb has been owned by Ancestry since 2000- see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancestry.com#RootsWeb- and the above Reliable Sources link notes Ancestry.com, aside from primary source documents that "may be usable under WP:BLPPRIMARY", includes "unreliable" "user-generated content", i.e. the content on Rootsweb.

One potential replacement would be this Guardian article- https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2022/apr/08/david-hyde-pierce-julia-frasier-interview - which gives "His parents, Laura and George, were insurance agents"; also, this Observer article mentions his father's amateur acting- https://observer.com/2016/10/a-not-so-little-life-for-david-hyde-pierce/ : "His father wanted to be an actor but went into the insurance business—while maintaining his amateur standing in community theater and in small roles when stars on tour landed in Saratoga. "When I was in Spamalot, a group from my home town brought me a collection of reviews they had found of my dad. One of them was an interview with Diana Barrymore. She did a show with my dad and said, 'Well, if George Pierce is what amateur actors are like, why do we need professionals?'"" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.109.197.244 (talk) 01:38, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
