Vandalism?

[edit]

In the list of comic monologists: George W. Bush, and '"The Guy from Dirty Dancing..." Really? It's actually hilarious (depending on your political persuasion), but I don't think this was a serious entry. What does everyone think? Firemanic9 (talk) 21:03, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested merger

[edit]

I suggest merging the article Soliloquy. The article soliloquy is rather wordy, and could make more sense slightly pruned and included in 'Monologue'. A large part of the article 'Soliloquy' is an unannotated extract from Shakespeare, which could be more appropriately cited than quoted in full.--Smerus 17:54, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

now merged--Smerus 16:50, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone verify that the term "Monologuing" was not used before "The Incredibles" ? That seems rediculous to me. - Win7ermute jk;

There's a scene in "Last Action Hero" in which the "real-life" Danny explains to the villain that he let the good guys get the upper hand while he was rambling on, only to be caught in the same way. I don't remember if the term "monologuing" was actually used, though.--Fuzza409 11:00, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest the Darth Vader example on "Monologuing" be removed. He was fighting not making a speech, one line is not a monologue, as the article should show.

actually i read somewhere that monologue is a speech when only one person on the stage speaks and the others either cant hear him or dont pay attention to it, while a soliloquy is a dialogue to the self, that is talking to themselves to reveal the inner thoughts to the audience or simply to speak aloud the inner thinking. I cannot source it but if anyone can please verify it, i will be grateful. 59.94.144.205 07:18, 12 August 2007 (UTC) monologues are also connecting to the inter-feelings of the actor or actress they also help you speak your inter most feelings to the audience.[reply]

The Metal Gear Solid franchise should be added in here. There are several monologues in all of the games and in one game, a monologue lasts for 35 minutes. That is one of the defining characteristics of MGS, long cutscenes and monologuing. It is the perfect video game example of a monologue. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.34.50.155 (talk) 05:16, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A video game? What's the world coming to? Unfree (talk) 22:41, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean? What are you trying to imply? Ah yes of course, I forgot, videogames is just some dumb bleep-bloop mario platform shit for kids, not the highest grossing form of mass media in the world. Your world is over, old man, get out of the road if you can't lend a hand. Cinema is not art.

Les mis

[edit]

There's a song in Les Miserables called Valjean's Soliloquy should that be put in with musical theatre. I don't have an account so thats why there's no username. 216.164.33.60 (talk) 19:17, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Historical Context of a Rant

[edit]

I recommend that the section "Historical Context of a Rant" be removed, as it appears to be entirely made up. The title of the book mentioned is completely implausible, especially for the publication date given (1908), and I am convinced that the book and its author and publisher are entirely fictional.Paulannis (talk) 15:21, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded. It's almost certainly fake. I'll remove it myself in a week or two if no one proves otherwise. Goldenband (talk) 13:26, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Soliloquy

[edit]

I can't believe that "soliloquy" isn't even mentioned. If "monologue" is a recent term, it's no doubt because soliloquy would have been the appropriate word until recently, and who in the theater wants to admit it's not in their vocabulary? Unfree (talk) 22:30, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why isn't there any information about the soliloquy, anyway? There seems to be a redirect to this page from some articles, but no information is provided here. Perhaps a link to the soliloquy article would be appropriate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.247.162.244 (talk) 01:01, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First-person narrative

[edit]

Shouldn't the article distinguish between first-person narrative and interior monologue, assuming both terms are legitimate? Unfree (talk) 22:37, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why does rant redirect here?

[edit]

Monologue is much more general than rant, and rant is not even mentioned in the main article text. Amaurea (talk) 17:28, 3 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unsuitable picture, please remove

[edit]

Can someone with permission please remove the picture of the Ghanian food, it's distracting and not useful in understanding the article. --Talking red (talk) 14:03, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
