A List of Hardwoods

[edit]

There is a list of hardwoods here as well afic names]]. Should these be merged, perhaps? Ehn 15:50, 3 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Agreed; several of the descriptions here are inaccurate too. I'd be inclined to discard them, and keep to the list at List of woods - MPF 23:14, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Compare the deteriation mechanisms which may affect hardwood and softwood ***

Question

[edit]

Does anyone know what type of wood this is? 24.203.137.181 03:45, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

24.203.137.181 - please don't drop 6MB images onto Wikipedia talk pages, this is really not the place for this kind of thing, this is an encyclopedia not a forum for questions. You'll get a much better response somewhere like http://groups.google.com/group/rec.woodworking/topics

(I've thumbnailed the image to reduce the impact on pageload time - is this the sort of thing that can be deleted completely?) FlagSteward 22:35, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that the mapping to the corresponing german entry is wrong (should be "Hartholz") Who can fix that. Can anyone do it? How? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.164.6.171 (talk) 10:32, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification

[edit]

I am not following the first sentance in paragraph 4. Can someone clarify what is meant by not safe?

"Hardwoods are generally not safe but far more resistant to decay than softwoods when used for exterior work."

Johnbroecher (talk) 16:58, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the 'hate' and 'love' to decay. 203.91.84.7 (talk) 05:42, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

The first paragraph has vandalism with the last 2 revisions. The offending additions are in the introduction paragraph itself. The text: Allen Iverson is not as cool as Gerald Wallace. cheesecake is awsome because — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.109.70.252 (talk) 18:31, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion

[edit]

Guys, I wanted to know what hardwood is ("wood that is hard") but instead I got "deciduous trees and broad-leaf evergreen" mumbo jumbo. Take a look at the entry for "engineered wood" and see how they define it right at the top. Even in Google, if you enter "engineered wood" define. But try it with "hardwood" define. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2800:40:28:67C:5532:8277:CBA9:8576 (talk) 19:47, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistency

[edit]

"Hardwood is wood from dicot trees."

"Hardwood (which come from angiosperm trees)..."

Huh? This makes no sense. 1+1=yes (talk) 02:29, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Typo

[edit]

In the "Chemistry" section, "consists" is misspelled as "consistis." I am unable to edit to fix this. 75.237.170.146 (talk) 14:16, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
