Welcome J :-) How should we call you now ?

What was the Winter War all about?

[edit]

Jussi-Ville!

I guess you've Talk:Moscow Peace Treaty (1940) on your watchlist. I feel again to have come in the somewhat awkward position of somehow standing on the Finnish side of a barricade — like I felt vis-à-vis User:172 and User:Graculus not so long time ago. This is something I'm not really educated for. I feel more competent (comparably) when trying to temper Fennocentrism. ;-))

My usernames

[edit]

Please indicate the associations between each of your accounts on their user pages, to eliminate the potential for people thinking that you're trying to hide something. Jamesday 16:05, 15 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Jussi, if I understand this right:

  • you want to have to separate user accounts
  • the separation is only so that you don't accidentally abuse your sysop rights
  • User:Cimon_avaro is your Administrator account, and User:J-V_Heiskanen is your regular article editing account.
  • We won't call one a "sock puppet" of the other, because you're being upfront about this. --Uncle Ed 20:10, 18 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Correct on all counts. And recently I have been in a brain-chemical state at which I have been particularly susceptible to errors of all kinds, so I have been consciously avoiding editing under any username at all. Today afternoon finally my impacted tooth was pulled. You can imagine my relief, both mental and physical. I will be returning to "normal service", as soon as I wean myself from morphine based pain-killers, and transition to the less mood-affecting ones. -- J-V Heiskanen 20:39, 18 Mar 2004 (UTC)

crypto

[edit]

J-V,

I am surprised to discover that you are also cimon avaro etc. No importance to this that I can see, given that the state of my astonish-o-meter at any given time is of no particular interest to anyone, generally including myself. But that's not what prompts this note...

I'm writing to reply to a comment of yours in re: starting a timeline of cryptography or some such. Arvindn was reluctant to have so many list of this or that related to crypto pages, but Matt Crypto has pretty much settled that as nearly as I can see with his work at List of crypto topics. So a timeline article would seem to be acceptable and the more I've thought about it since your comment, the more appropriate it has seemed. Matt has been strongly opposed to an historical (ie, gentle and gradual) account of the crypto (see Talk:Crypto for the back and forth), so such a timeline might fill what I see as the resulting gap.

Now, how to go about it? I think that brief annotations at each entry would be most useful. As for instance,

1465 -- Alberti invents polyalphabetic substitution cyphers. Biggest advance in crypto practice since invention of frequency analysis, since provides a way to defeat freq anal. Various partial implementations of polyalphabetic cyphers follow for the next 450 years (see Vigenere cypher) as many miss the significance of Alberti's invention.

What do you think?

J-V,
Please pardon the added heading. It's intended to flag a place for such stuff. Anyway, I'm leaving a note to tell you about a discussion page at WikiProject Cryptography (which, if you weren't aware, you are now; and are invited to formally join if you would so wish) on the TT cypher v cipher question. I'm not aware that you have a position on this, and so was unable to include you in current standings. You've an interest in this stuff, and I suppose might have an interest in less momentous questions related to crypto, so I thought I'd give you a heads up. Join in or not, as you wish. ww 18:38, 26 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Can you please translate the election notice into Finnish. Thanks. Danny 11:37, 7 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation

[edit]

Simonides has requested mediation with the above users. Jayjg and Humus sapiens have agreed to mediation. Cimon avaro has agreed to mediate between Humus sapiens, Simonides and Jayjg, but not with RK who has not yet responded to a message left by Angela asking him if he accepts mediation.

I would be happy to be involved in such mediation. RK 15:12, Jul 20, 2004 (UTC)

Cimon, I have tried to contact you regarding the mediation between Dan Keshet, Zero, and RK. You have not responded. Please let me know what is happening. Thank you. If you would like, I will hand the mediation over to someone else. Danny 00:45, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)

More mediation

[edit]

I left a message at User_talk:Cimon_avaro#Mediation_request but just wanted to leave a note here too in case you were logged in here. Thanks, BCorr|Брайен 15:45, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Gotham/Pittsburgh

[edit]

Hi,

I noted that in August 2003 you had added to the Gotham City article that the city was based on New York and Pittsburgh. I was curious where you had read/heard the Pittsburgh connection. If you could give me a reference, I would really appriciate it.

Thanks,

Hi, I'm seeking inclusionist enlightenment in the official train wreck (mostly my fault, I'm afraid) called the Pandeism VfD. Would you care to have a gander? --BD thimk 03:38, 2005 May 3 (UTC)
