Dear experienced Wikepedians. I have now added my article and after much moving around by other wikepedians it has finally landed where it should be and the dependence on Mahogany has been broken. Thanks Vicky Rosenzweig!! My problem now is that I would like Google to find the article when one searches for Neem. How is that done? Thanks to anyone who can help me out on that one.

Have a look at http://www.google.com/addurl.html --JeLuF

Hello there, welcome to the 'pedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you need any questions answered about the project then check out Wikipedia:Help or drop me a line. Cheers! --maveric149

Hi maveric, sorry for not reacting before but I had the Login problem many had. I logged in and as soon as I went to another page only my IP number came up. That way I couldn't check my own user page which I check through my Watchlist. Thanks for offering help. I probably will need it in the near future as I will want to add some things to the article on [Neem] I wrote.

Good work and all the best. Andrew

Hi maveric, I am back again and already may need your help. I would like google to find the article on Neem in Wikipedia. As you can see on my own User page user:Vanderesch somebody suggested a way, but after 3 weeks Google still doesn't come up with a hit on the Neem article. Do you know a solution that might work??

Googles webcrawler Googlebot periodically downloads the all wikipedia pages. It does take a few more weeks to a couple of months for Googlebot to get back around to wikipedia since it is constantly downloading and indexing at least some part of the net. Just give it some time and Google will display Neem. Cheers! --maveric

Hi Andrew. Welcome to the 'pedia.

That darn John is too quick for me. :) Still, great minds think alike: when I hit the edit conflict, his edit and mine were virtually identical.

As for your size question, that could be more difficult. Small images, especially line drawings with lines off the simple vertical and horizontal, do not scale well. In this particular case, the size of the image looks just right to me: I wouldn't change it. But for future reference, I'll mention that what you really need to do to produce a reasonable quality image of any given size is work from a very large original and let your image-editing software have as many pixels to work with as possible. Also, try to shrink in even fractions. A 33% shrink, for example, nearly always looks much better than a 37% or 31% shrink.

So, it looks as though there was no need for me to answer at all in this case. (John obviously types faster than I do. I guess he cheats and uses both hands at the same time!) But you are always welcome to ask. Sing out if you have any other questions. Cheers -- Tony. (Tannin 13:28 19 May 2003 (UTC))

You know, that "both hands" comment might not reflect well upon you. ;) But yes, I agreed that it was just about the right size as it was, it just needed to be moved to where it would be visible "above the fold", which it wasn't before. And although I don't think it bears specifically on shrinking, you could probably get some good information about how to treat the images at Wikipedia:How to keep image file sizes as small as possible. -- John Owens 13:41 19 May 2003 (UTC)
Actually, more generally, the pages listed at Wikipedia:Graphics tutorials might have more relevant material than that one; I haven't looked through all of them yet. -- John Owens 13:45 19 May 2003 (UTC)

The Short-toed Eagle pic could stand to shrink a bit too, I see. Would you like me to do the honors, or have you found a way to do it yet? -- John Owens 14:18 21 May 2003 (UTC)

Andrew, when you leave a message, the best way to sign is using three tildes ~~~ which the software will convert to your user name giving a link back. A fourth tilde will add the date and time ~~~~ gives jimfbleak 14:42 21 May 2003 (UTC)

If you want the taxobox picture to link to a larger image, use this format:

<tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td> </td></tr>

Note that the jpg/JPG is case sensitive, so you need to note how it uploads. jimfbleak

I had a look at Neem. I'm impressed at your faultless use of what must be your third language. I don't know if you want to add a taxobox (see Ginkgo)?. I'd do it myself, but I know nothing about plant taxonomy. jimfbleak 16:27 21 May 2003 (UTC)

I just spotted your comments about image sizes on Tannin's page. Not quite sure what you mean - you could mean download size, or the actual physical size. The advice you've been given above is perfectly sound. However, there are differences between images with photos, and drawings. Photos can be shrunk using tools such as Photoshop, Paint shop pro etc., and there are really two stages: 1. Change the physical dimensions and then 2. change the level of JPEG compression. These two do interact slightly, but as a general rule if you combine both you will get pretty small file sizes, and others who have low bandwidth links will thank you. If you think anyone will want to have better quality, there are two options - 1. don't scale down to the absolute linear limit - perhaps use a size which is 1.5 (linear) larger than you want - this will give a file which has about twice as much data before jpeg compression, and will have a bit more detail - or 2. use small, lowish qualiy thumbnails and link these to larger image files for those who want to download better quality.

For drawings it is really not such a good idea to use jpeg - probably gif or png are better. What about files which have drawings+ photos? There isn't really a sensible standard yet - what is really needed is a system which provides layers - jpg for photos, plus a drawing oriented description language for the drawing. Even gif and png aren't really good for drawings, since they don't scale properly. Maybe this will help - if you haven't already had this information. -- David Martland 14:27 5 Jun 2003 (UTC)

A sandbox is now on you user page. Can't help with the tilde, it's a straight keyboard press for me. Now let's have a look at the image... jimfbleak 13:11 11 Jun 2003 (UTC)

File:Liceimage01small.jpg

BTW, your louse articles are mainly under lice etc. Wiki policy is to have articles under the singular eg head louse, so it might be an idea to use Move This Page, which will create a redirect from the plural at the same time jimfbleak

Must... resist... urge... to make... awful pun....
Those are some lousy article titles.
Guess I just couldn't help myself. ;) -- John Owens 21:17 11 Jun 2003 (UTC)
Oh John, stop bugging people, it just isn't lice ;) -- sannse 21:24 11 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Ciao Andrew,

Io ho come base, una enciclopedia molto recente "Handbook of the Birds of the World" di Josep del Hoyo, Andrew Elliot e Jordi Sargatal dell Lynx Edicions di Barcellona.

OK?

To revert an article, just click on the article history, select the most recent non-vandalized version near the top, then click on "edit page". Then put something like "Reverted to last version by someone" in the Summary and click on save page. You can also edit the article prior to saving it if that's necessary (for example, if you want to include some more recent edit). Daniel Quinlan 10:08, Nov 10, 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for the compliments and advice. I may come back to Poetry in a couple of days to see if I can edit. Bmills 12:04, 19 Nov 2003 (UTC)

hello, thanks for the pointer. This is what i do in these cases (If its not a copyvio): I put a note in the user talk page, refering (kindly) him/her the the help pages. If they dont do anything, then i wikify the text, removing some eventual POViness. I dont do it right away because i think people are entitles to discover wiki by themselves! Your sandbox

Do you want your sandbox delete? If not, then I suggest you remove the delete message from it or someone might do so. Dori | Talk 14:43, Mar 3, 2004 (UTC)

Broadcom

[edit]

Hi! I 'm John Martinez and I work as a journalist in Japan.

Do you have to delete Broadcom?

Broadcom and Intel are involved with a dispute with China concerning WiFi and proprietorship. Both Broadcom and Intel are playing significant roles in the openning up of the Chinese industry, especially the wireless industry. Please do not delete the broadcom article. I am in not profiting from the article nor I am doing it for publicity. I am the author but wasn't logged in at that time.

Borage

[edit]

Hi Andrew, with nl: unreachable (I keep getting 'could not locate server') I'll answer you here: I added an image link to the taxobox on Borage. Becuase the dutch wiki cannot be accessd at the moment, I cannot save the image there and upload it here. I will try to do so later this evening or tomorrow. TeunSpaans 17:38, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Hi. Re: Commonwealth Secondary - I agree that this should be deleted but it is not a candidate for speedy deletion - please list on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion if appropriate. - Tεxτurε 15:27, 29 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Calcutta -> Kolkata name change

[edit]

Hi there. I noticed you voted in the Wikipedia:Naming policy poll to keep the Wikipedia policy of naming an article with the most familiar English name. You may not be aware that another attempt has begun to rename the Calcutta article to Kolkata, which is blatantly not the most common name of the city, whether it's official or not. If you want to vote on the issue you can do so at Talk:Calcutta. Cheers. -- Necrothesp 13:32, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Neem edit

[edit]

Thank you for experimenting with the page Neem on Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. I had just hit you with test-n, then looked at your contribs. Is someone else using this account? This doesn't seem to fit your pattern. ----SB_Johnny|talk|books 13:19, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why were you adding people's names then (i.e., "Jack" Jacob? --SB_Johnny|talk|books 14:01, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I see. Changed it for naming conventions [1], sorry about the misunderstanding.--SB_Johnny|talk|books 14:26, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Me Mill.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Me Mill.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
