In May/June 2013, there was a Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jerusalem about the lead section of this article. This discussion was mandated by the Arbitration Committee, and its result remained binding for three years (until January 2016). While the binding results of this RfC have now expired, this page is subject to the following page-level sanction: As the results of Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jerusalem regarding the article's lead represent the community's consensus at a well-attended discussion, a new request for comments must be undertaken and reach consensus prior to any changes being made to the article's lead section. Editors editing the lead without consensus from an RfC are subject to sanctions such as page or topic bans or being blocked from editing. Reverts of blatant and obvious vandalism or edits made in violation of this sanction are exempt from this restriction.

The modern Arabic name of Jerusalem is اَلْـقُـدْس al-Quds, and its first recorded use can be traced to the 9th century CE, two hundred years after the Muslim conquest of the city. Christians arab still use the اورشليم (Ûrshalîm) name 202.22.226.143 (talk) 10:35, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Third lede paragraph[edit]

The third lede paragraph, dealing with religious importance, does not summarize the body. It is better for the religious importance part to be summarized briefly and inserted in the second lede paragraph which deals with history which would be then divided into two paragraphs. it is cited in the Siege of Jerusalem (636–637) article that the siege began in 636 and surrender in 638 Hectorhako (talk) 23:27, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
