I just wanted to thank you for your edits at that article. You imagine it is quite important for us in Spain. Pfortuny 18:21, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Spain is my favourite country in the world besides my own; I visited in 2002 and fell in love. The attacks hurt me deeply. - Montréalais

Hey, so, are you interested in doing the Wikipedia Meetup? --ESP 23:30, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Paris as Government of Canada?

[edit]

Re your addition of "As with other capital cities,..." to my new paragraph on Ottawa, I originally wrote exactly the same as you, but then realised it carried the implication that names of other capital cities (eg. Paris) were all used to refer to the federal government of Canada. This seems rather unlikely, but I don't suppose it matters much. ;-) Best wishes, Cambyses 23:16, 3 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Frost and roses

[edit]

Thanks for adding the Robert Frost poem at Rosaceae. It made me happy. Marnanel 21:30, May 21, 2004 (UTC)

Glad you liked it ^_^ -Montréalais 04:44, 22 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Sexist story line at Lava

[edit]

I don't doubt that there are more than a few of those kinds of entries. The one you fixed up at Lava I believe is part of the old 1911 (?) encyclopedia stuff that was incorporated into Wikipedia to fill gaps. Of course no respectable women would be out exploring lava fields in the early 1900's ! ;^) - Marshman 03:33, 27 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Metro map

[edit]

Hi, are you user Montréalais on the french Wikipédia? I want to confirm that because I'm about to upload your image Montreal-metro-map.png on the french wiki and intend to give you credit as the author with your french user name if it is possible. Thank you. Sarex 20:58, 5 Jun 2004 (UTC)

C'est bien moi. Merci. - Montréalais 21:21, 5 Jun 2004 (UTC)
C'est un plaisir. :) Très belle image en passant... Sarex 22:26, 5 Jun 2004 (UTC)

License

[edit]

Your map of the Canadian election results is truly excellent, but what do the white or empty blocks signify? The key does not explain. -- orthogonal 15:07, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Ahh, OK. It's explained in the article, but I'll add a mention to the description of the image. - Montréalais

using your photograph

[edit]

Dear Montrealais, thanks for your great Montreal photograph works. I intend to use your photo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Montreal-skyline.jpg for a Montreal Chinese wiki site and for a non-profitable alumni site. I am enquiring about the copyright issue.

Would you be kind telling me how to deal with this? my email: infomax@gmail.com

Thanks, D.J.

I, blankfaze, hereby award you this Working Man's Barnstar, as reward for your wonderful metro maps, your fantastic Canadian federal elections map, and your astounding 11,457 contributions.

Congratulations. I'd like to thank you for your hard work here at Wikipedia. Your contributions have been invaluable to the project. Thanks to you, we have many images and much content that we might not have had otherwise. I'm very impressed! Any with all your accomplishments, why aren't you an admin?!

P.S. Would you like to be one? blankfaze | •• | •• 03:58, 8 Jul 2004 (UTC)

  • is extremely flattered* Why, thank you so much. :) But I haven't considered being an admin. My knowledge of technical issues is insufficient. - Montréalais
    • Well, if you say so. You've been an extremely valuable resource to the wiki and I just figured it was (way past) time for you to make the next step. Whenever you're ready, though, I'd be honoured to nominate you. blankfaze | •• | •• 12:50, 8 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Just letting you know, your City Hall photo has found a home at the new article linked above, which I have just composed. Radagast 00:13, Jul 9, 2004 (UTC)

Nice map! :) Always nice to meet another metrophile. Can I ask a couple of questions? 1) Do you plan to keep it updated as the new Orange Line stations (in the west) are added, and New York Ave's name is possibly changed? I ask to find out what program you used, what font you used, and if you wouldn't mind me updating the map if and when such changes occur. (If I catch them first) --Golbez 20:28, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)

Sure. I used Photoshop 7.0, Arial Black for the station names, and Arial for stations under construction. Otherwise, I plan to keep it updated. - Montréalais 20:37, 19 Jul 2004 (UTC)

wanted to say nice map but i did notice a slight error. you have the silver spring exit on the red line inside the district. its actually OVER the district line. I lived about 6 blocks from the Takoma station over the district line in Maryland. the silver spring stop was 5 miles in the opposite direction of DC from me :) -- Alkivar 01 Aug 2004

Hi, I was hoping you had a link or reference for that material you added. I only ask because it seems contrary to other information I had seen. Feel free to respond directly on that talk page. Thanks, Taxman 20:58, Jul 20, 2004 (UTC)

I added a citation to the article. - Montréalais 21:01, 20 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Calder mobilee

[edit]

Thanks for the pic of a mobile on Alexander Calder — the page really needed a bit of colour. -- Solipsist 09:48, 12 Sep 2004 (UTC)

From where do you have this image?

Dunno. I'm not the one who put it there. - Montréalais 15:28, 19 Sep 2004 (UTC)

About the civil union

[edit]

I noticed your change on the civil union at Culture of Quebec. I understand that the law is the same for heterosexuals and homosexuals, so your correction is accurate. However, I wonder how it was called before the modifications which allowed same-sex couples to benefit for this legal status. Was the prior law also called union civile? I know that my parents were "conjoints de fait" in the 1980s since they didn't wish to get married. Do you know if that was also under something called "union civile"? -- Mathieugp 18:13, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)

The union civile, for both same-sex and different-sex pairs, was a completely new status created in 2002. The right to have same-sex conjoints de fait (which did not require any ceremony at all, much like common-law marriage in the rest of the country) had existed since 1999, if I recall correctly. - Montréalais 18:22, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I believe the map you posted was also copy-writed with your information, so I see to fail the difference when credit is given to the STM versus your own personal map. A copyrite on the bottom means you are giving credit to the original source of the information. And almost all of the information on your website is public-domain, such as the opening of stations, etc. Personally, I find the STM map much more appealing because the white background matches the white of Wikipedia, whereas your black image does not connect at all. PZFUN 06:02, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Information (such as station opening times) cannot be copyrighted. The map, however, is a creative work, as is text in another website, and for us to take the STM's creative work and reproduce it here is copyright infringement. It is insufficient to simply steal whatever images we want as long as credit is given.
All images must be either in the public domain or released under the GFDL. You obviously didn't read the text on the bottom of my map, which specifically states that it is released under the GFDL. - Montréalais 13:30, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)

After looking around other Metro websites, I agree with you. I had been working for a while on the New York Subway which has no map at all, and also on the Hong Kong MTR which uses the official map. My apologies.

New message board for Canadian wikipedians

[edit]

I've recently noticed, no pun intended, that notice boards for wikipedians in certain parts of the world have appeared on Wikipedia, and that there wasn't such a board set up for Canadian wikipedians. Well, I have gone ahead and created one, and thought you might want to help get it going. Denelson83 18:10, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Linky link? - Montréalais 18:20, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Hi, thought you might be interested in voting for Culture of Spain to have it be the focus of that project for the week to improve to a great, eventually featured article. Thanks - Taxman 17:13, Oct 6, 2004 (UTC)

Hi Montrealais,

Just thought I should let you know that I've nominated your photo of Parliament Hill, Ottawa Image:Parliament3.jpg for delisting from WP:FPC. Nothing personal, its just that it looks like Featured Pictures has moved on and now has quite a few better pictures. -- Solipsist 13:49, 9 Oct 2004 (UTC)
