Transliteration

the Russian Нижегородская can be transliterated as nizhyegorodskaya, is it actually pronounced Nizhny Novgorod? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.77.110.110 (talk) 10:50, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, Nizhny Novgorod is the name of the city which is the administrative center of the oblast and after which the oblast was named.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 12:29, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
shouldnt this article be Nizhegorod Oblast? --LeVivsky (ಠ_ಠ) 19:10, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's a valid alternative (which should be mentioned in the article, I suppose) and a toss. "Nizhny Novgorod" is used mainly for consistency (per WP:NCCS, more or less). For every other oblast the name of the administrative center is used to construct the title, and the "Nizhny Novgorod Oblast" construct is not a violation of idiom.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); June 11, 2014; 19:21 (UTC)

Divejevo Borough

[edit]

Can anyone explane is the northern part of town Sarov (Ersya Sar?) also adminstrated from Dijejevo or by Sarov town council itself. This question since two thirds of Sarov is located inside Respublika Mordovia, not inside Nizhnyi Novgorod Oblast. This is one of the divided towns inside Russian Federation borders. A pretty sure a question of dispute as Czech Ciesyn and Polish Cieszyn in local adminsrative circles. When I visited there people just watched each others over the river and were not able to cross the border bridge as a result of Communistic Regimes in Both Countries. This is of course not the case in Sarov which is inside one country the other side is only a reserverate created by Georgian Iosif Vissinarovich (Vissinarin poika) Dzhugasvili, born in Gori in Georgia, with not nice childhood with drunken father), during the days when he was The Commissar of Minority Questions in 1921 - 1922. He was keen interested to learn of American Indiane Reservates to create similar ones in Soviet Russia. His magnum opus was how to create minority populated areas in the way that they presented minority also in their own named areas. Many larges settlements inhabited by minorities were transferred to Russian majority Oblasts not fo form a minority populated majotity insede their own areas. And this he pretty well did, with the help of his Russian advisers. Compare Komarno / Komarom divided by state border and Danube, (a result of Versailles in 1919), but Hungarians living on both sides of the river in two states, Hungary and Slovakia, now both members of the EU (European Union). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.114.201.128 (talk) 13:10, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
