Elton John

[edit]

This list was split off from the main article Atlanta, Georgia. Both in that article and here, people have alternately added and removed Elton John from the list. User:Ford defined Atlantan as "resident or native", adding this comment in his edit summary: "Elton John: "I live here."" (the external link goes to an article about Elton on the CNN.com webpage). Elton John does own a condo in Buckhead and says he lives there, so I believe he should stay on the list. I am by no means an Elton John expert, so if you have a compelling reason why he should not be on this list, I am open to pursuasion. Sayeth 17:15, Jan 18, 2005 (UTC)

Request for Comment

[edit]

A page similar to this one. List of people from San Francisco, is currently under review as an article for deletion, for reasons which would apply to this article as well. I am conducting an RfC on the talk page of the above-mentioned list to determine whether the concensus agrees on keeping such lists or not. Any and all comments are more than welcome. Deletion of this page.

[edit]

I deleted this page for personal reasons, so I was wondering if (with the help of everybody here) that I can make a new page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Powdercity (talkcontribs) 20:43, 3 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Jobs or genres?

[edit]

The "Music" portion of the "Entertainers and musicians" section currently lists people by genre (Country, R&B, Jazz, etc.) and also by job (Conductors, Singers and musicians, Producers). I submit that this a a bad way to do it; we should pick one way to group folks and stick with it. Having both ways leads to duplication, of which we already have plenty. We have a similar overlap between "Film and acting" and "Radio and television".

So which criterion would you prefer to see used: genre or (main) job? — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 14:29, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up

[edit]

I rewrote the introductory lead paragraph, and I plan on going through the list and re-organizing it and adding the citation tag to any un-referenced people. When done, I'll put them all below here, to be re-added at such a date when a proper reference can be found. Ncboy2010 (talk) 16:01, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved the list of people that I've not checked for references/added back into the list Here, please feel free to find references for people on that list, and re-add them to the article. Thanks Ncboy2010 (talk) 12:44, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lede

[edit]

I looked at the lede for most other "List of People from [Major American City]" and none have the fluff that was in the intro for Atlanta. The current lede I inserted is from List of people from Boston, but go to any major city and you will see a variation of this. Not sure why the bot decided to label this article as needing a lede expansion, but the previous lede, picking out two people and naming them "most notable," is unencyclopedic and violates WP:POV.--Mmann1988 (talk) 14:16, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, although It's not within my personal opinion, I concede that (after having consulted some fellow wikipedians) that it appears the general consensus is to retain the current lead and I don't wish to open a discussion. Although I did decide to remove the last bit that refers to individuals who have lived /near/ the city as this leads to unnecessary cruft and leaves the list with numerous individuals who might have never set foot within Atlanta. In any case, I appreciate the work you're doing in helping out. Remember, we've still got a lot of people that need to be re-added (see above comment) and many lack reputable sources showing that they've actually lived within the city. Trouble and Lil Keed deceased update

[edit]

Both the rapper Trouble and Lil Keed who were born and from Atlanta became deceased in the year 2022. Lil Keed passed away on May 13 2022 while Trouble died on June 5th 2022. They are both included in the list for musicians from Atlanta, should their list become updated saying they are deceased now? 24.13.28.25 (talk) 05:55, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
