Anarchism is a word which can be used in several senses:

  • Anarchism (anti-capitalist) - The anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalist, and anti-statist movement as seen in the Spanish Revolution, May 1968 in France, or the Ukrainian uprising against the Bolsheviks under Nestor Makhno, and a wide variety of other social uprisings and revolutions.
  • Anarcho-capitalism - A philosophy considerably distinct from the above which advocates a society that exists merely in the absence of the state, individuals have the liberty to exchange goods, services and property, so the spontaenous order of a market with specialization and division of labor will likely occur. Since there is property, some individuals may not live in poverty.
