This is obviously very rough. Perhaps a better model could be done with tables? It's difficult to figure out good ways to address the very sprawling diagrams in the Encyclopédie and represent them in an HTML format. At least, I don't know quite the best way to do it. Many of these words could be Wikified, of course, if anybody wants to work on that they are more than welcome to. I've also done my best to check for typos but they are plausible. A scan of the original French version is on the Encyclopédie page. This translation varies a little bit but not significantly, though it does suffer from being less comprehensible because of the format. Suggestions are welcome! --Fastfission 23:45, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Is there any way one could have each level as a drop-down menu, so you could open and close each node as you will? zafiroblue05 | Talk 02:46, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the tree because there is too many errors in the tree. Examples:

  • Understanding
    • Memory
      • History
        • Sacred <-- This should say Sacred (History of Prophets) all on one line.
        • History of Prophecies is not even on the tree.
        • Ecclesiastical, proper should say "Ecclesiastical, properly said."

All the "Knowledge of ...." should be "Science of ....".

  • Working and uses of Gold and Silver. (Working..should be "Work"
    • Minter...should be Minting
    • Goldbeater, Gold Threader, and Gold Roller are not on the original document.
    • Gold and Silver Smith (should be on two separate items.
  • Heavy Forging should be "Large Forges"

The *These divisions can also be....at the very bottom; the items it references are no where in the original tree.

There should be a period at the end of every bullet, even the original tree has periods.

These are just a few instances; the list could go on. However, you can compare what is there now to the fully translated English version of The Tree of Diderot and d'Alembert; http://quod.lib.umich.edu/d/did/graphics/tree.png.

If the bulleted tree is going to have the title of "The Tree of Diderot and d'Alembert" it should reflect the original document. I spent countless hours yesterday doing the tree translating it personally until I found the above tree. Even after I had translated the tree on my own it matched what the image link above shows.

If it is going to stay the way it is then it should reflect a different title. --Tekeek (talk) 01:44, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted the article back to my original re-creation based on the information above. Although the Fastfission is correct in regards to "it does suffer from being less comprehensible because of the format." As above the tree was redone based on the English version of The Tree of Diderot and d'Alembert found here http://quod.lib.umich.edu/d/did/graphics/tree.png. --Tekeek (talk) 00:36, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
