Expansion of stub

[edit]

I have expanded the stub with some more information and references, of which there were none that were working properly. I took the liberty of eliminating the links/references that were "dead", ie you could not read the article (which was the case with the article in the Independant http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/rausing-family-values-the-dark-side-of-a-dynasty-808150.html). The Rausings have indeed been critisized for their tax policy (most notably by The Guardian), but unbiased information is very difficult to find. M.D.?

[edit]

The Tetra Pak page says he ran the company from 1954 to 1985, but this page says he was MD for 37 years to 1996 (from 1959 ?). -- Beardo 07:07, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In order not to confuse discussions on academic titles below: that is apparently "M.D." as in managing director, rather than Doctor of Medicine! Tomas e (talk) 10:41, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Professor?

[edit]

Question: the article says Professor, but no indication of where or what. —Preceeding unsigned comment was added on January 26, 2007 by User:71.192.55.162

I have removed the Professor title until there is good reason to put it back. —Preceeding unsigned comment was added on May 29, 2007 by 86.132.220.42
The text comes from this page in the Swedish Wikipedia. I've posted a query to its Talk page and also on that of the (since inactive) editor who created the page there. -- Deborahjay (talk) 07:50, 2 December 2008 (UTC).[reply]
It could perhaps be a confusion of a professorship (chair) created in his name, "The Hans Rausing chair in History of Science" at Uppsala University. (Swedish Wikipedia article here.) The donation for the chair was actually done by his daughter Lisbet Rausing who has a Ph.D. in history of science. As to Rausing's doctorate (question below) he holds at least two honorary doctorates - one in economics and one in medicine (Lund, 2001) - on account of substantial donations to research. Tomas e (talk) 10:40, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Have now unearthed more information. During three years, circa 2001-2004, he was a visiting professor in entrepreneurship and innovation at Mälardalen University (which in Swedish is a "college"/högskola rather than a proper "university", but all such have now the habit of translating themselves as universities). This probably means that he was a regular part-time visiting lecturer for senior students. Tomas e (talk) 10:59, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He is an honourary professor at several universities in Sweden. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ðœð (talkcontribs) 17:32, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hence doctor honoris causa title. An honourary professorship still deems the recipient the 'professor' title in formal contexts.

Title of "Dr."?

[edit]

In a series of archival photographs from his visit with his wife Maerit to Israel on October 12, 1991, captions list him as Dr. Hans Rausing. Can this be clarified and confirmed? N.B. this may well relate to the possible "M.D." or "Professor" titles queried previously on this page, with as yet no conclusive responses. -- Deborahjay (talk) 08:30, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He has an honourary PhD from certain universities in Sweden.
