A lot of changes, and I am not sure of the reasons for that. Some deleated information seemed interesting. MihaiC 11:48, 24 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Am schimbat vechile informatii despre Baia Mare in primul rand fiindca acestea erau inexacte si in al doilea rand pentru ca referirile care se faceau la populatia de etnie romana erau foarte vagi (e.g. The city has got 148,363 inhabitants (17.5% Hungarians, 1992 census) Ori Baia Mare este oras romanesc, locuit de romani de diferite nationalitati, lucru care nu reiesea deloc din pagina initiala. (Radu D. & Cristi N) Baia Mare

I merged the two variants as I see no clear and direct contradiction between them (except the first mention of the settlement). Please write your objection in the talk page between edit it again. Otherwise this it will turn into a (pointless) edit war. MihaiC 07:18, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Have left your version but changed the data for ethnic groups in 1910 (why 1910? why not 1880 or 1930?). The changed data are from: http://www.hungarian-history.hu/lib/hmcb/Tab16.htm so I suppose they are accurate. I'm thinking to put the census data for 1930, but I'm not decided yet. (Radu D. & Cristi N.)

I am glad we can understand in peace :). In the other romanian towns where I wrote something, I put all the info I got. That link is great, and if the data aren't contested, we could put them all. There are any copyright issues? MihaiC 12:12, 2 Jul 2004 (UTC)

The accident at Aurul SA is by no mean a relevant part in the history of Baia Mare and is not representative for the city. So I delete it and I hope that it won't appear there again. (RaduD)

Yes, it's relevant. Also, why are you deleting information about the Hungarians in Baia Mare?? Khoikhoi 19:39, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please write more information about the city, since it is one of the most important cities in northwestern Romania. Pictures would also be welcome.
I strongly believe that the religious painting in the picture section of Baia Mare is highly irrelevant. This section should show suggestive images with the city itself not some painting in a church.

... one of the largest cities in Romania ?

[edit]

I suggest that the information about Baia Mare having the largest urban area in Romania be deleted/adjusted since i believe it is rather misleading for someone who has never visited the town and who might expect it (according to the 233 km^2 area) to be a (proto-)metropolis or something close to it. Yet we know that much of this claimed area is made up of suburban, rural and scarcely inhabited zones and forests. So i think this "marketing" information is just an artificial method of promoting (possibly false) information about the town. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GabrielSandor (talkcontribs) 01:30, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Baia Mare mining tragedy?

[edit]

Hello, I was looking at your section on Baia Mare, and I realized you have absolutely no information on the mining tragedy of January 2000, when 100,000 cubic meters of waste containing cyanide, as well as copper and other heavy metals, breached the tailings dam and was spilled into the Tisza and Danube rivers. Contaminated the drinking water of 2.5 million residents located in Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Serbia, as well as killing over 1200 tons of fish. This is considered one of the biggest mining disasters in history, so I would consider it Wikiworthy. ****

The accident happened in Bozânta Mare not Baia Mare. Bozânta Mare is a village, that is administrated by the [| Tăuții-Măgherăuș] town hall, about 10km from Baia Mare so I don't see why we should have a section here regarding the accident since it didn't happen within the city limits and it didn't affect the city - btw there's also an article about this on Wikipedia - [| 2000_Baia_Mare_cyanide_spill] . There could be a See also page at the bottom with a reference to the 2000_Baia_Mare_cyanide_spill article. The location of the dam on google maps - https://goo.gl/maps/4FDxzbC1BCnx2QZg9

Baia Mare mining tragedy? (repost)

[edit]

Yeah dudes, you did a great job hiding anything about the mining tragedy. There does not exists a single article in Wikipedia related to that, it's very suspicious.

We found your city looking for information about mining disaster, but someone posted that is "unrelated" to the city.

The jews of Baya Mare, Satu mare, Soncuta. What happened to the?

[edit]

I would like tp know ewhat happened to the large Jewish Community of this area. The community was properous and active and educated. The members of the Jewish community had property and real estate. They left behind (when deported) property, real estate. Could you trace it? Is there a list of the Jews that lived in the area and never returnerd —Preceding unsigned comment added by Klein77.126.70.152 (talk) 21:56, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

<<http://www.jewishgen.org>> likely has links to lists of Jewish people from the city who were lost in the Holocaust. They have a tremendous amount of data and links related to this period.Parkwells (talk) 18:37, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Roma Ghetto

[edit]

Would be nice if someone with a bit of information could add a bit about the ghetto that was built http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2285796/Romanian-gypsies-living-condemned-ghetto-mayor-built-wall-around.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.217.190.235 (talk) 16:55, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Other names

[edit]

Other names of Baia Mare are in the list of European towns: Names of European cities in different languages (B) It is a special law in order to avoid too many names in the same sentence. 86.124.157.175 (talk) 07:11, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Three foreign names is the standard limit. More may be added if considered necessary, but there's no problem with adding three if they make sense. Maybe the Latin one isn't necessary, but all Transylvanian places use German and Hungarian names in Wikipedia, just like all places in Bessarabia or Bukovina use (or should) Romanian names.
