Template:Infobox video game is permanently protected from editing because it is a heavily used or highly visible template. Substantial changes should first be proposed and discussed here on this page. If the proposal is uncontroversial or has been discussed and is supported by consensus, editors may use {{edit template-protected}} to notify an administrator or template editor to make the requested edit. Usually, any contributor may edit the template's documentation to add usage notes or categories.

Purchase/Download

Differentiate between gameplay genre and story genre

There should be separate sections for a game's gameplay genre and story genre.

For example, the gameplay genre of the Mario & Luigi series is RPG, but the story genre is action comedy. Benpiano800 (talk) 04:19, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Video games are routinely not characterized by their narrative genre, outside of horror game which intermixes the narrative and gameplay genre. So we avoid trying to use narrative genres. Also, knowing the mess these tend to cause for films and other works, that also draws a lot of original research and excessive flooding of genre descriptors, so its probably better we have avoided that.
