Lamy took office on May 13th ? The press release from WTO about his formal selection [1] was dated May 26th. -- 199.71.174.100 20:11, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The main article at World Trade Organization seems to imply that the WTO was created in 1995 (albeit from precursor organization, International Trade Organization). Maybe this article ought to mention something about this transition? Nimur 17:55, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah! I think there may be a typo in the article; it says the Director General post was created in 1965 but I believe it was actually 1995; this answers my previous question. I'm fixing it in the article. Nimur 17:59, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
When I created the article, I think I took Director-General of the WTO and Director-General of the GATT to be much the same thing, hence saying that it started in 1965 (when GATT was formed). I think I based this on the WTO page, here, but I don't know if people want to follow that. -- Vardion 05:37, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Incumbent date

[edit]

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala will not be sworn into this office until 1 March. However, I don't know how to edit the infobox to reflect the fact that until that date, she is not incumbent, or to imply that date is in the future. I recognize that this problem will solve itself in about two weeks, but is there a way to fix this in the time being? Thanks. AllegedlyHuman (talk) 15:07, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch AllegedlyHuman. You are right, she does not get sworn in for two weeks. See https://www.france24.com/en/africa/20210205-nigeria-s-okonjo-iweala-closes-in-on-wto-top-job-after-s-korean-rival-withdraws Jurisdicta (talk) 05:42, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
